Aerospace engineering covers the design and maintenance of both aircraft and spacecraft and involves concepts of temperature, pressure, and the dynamics of flight.

University of Alabama (Mostly Online)

University of Alabama offers a primarily online PhD program in aerospace engineering and mechanics providing students with the opportunity to become thought-leaders in the field of engineering. Testing may require live, in-person proctors to complete exams. The dissertation proposal and dissertation defense will take place in person in Tuscaloosa.

Specifically designed for engineering professionals with five or more years of experience within the field, this program allows students to propose, complete, and defend an approved dissertation on a research topic that contributes to the aerospace engineering field or engineering science and mechanics.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s PhD program in robotics engineering is one of the very few programs in the world where students can earn a doctorate in this field. Internationally recognized for its outstanding faculty members and advanced research projects, the program has a small student-to-faculty ratio meaning students get a chance to work side by side with world-class professors who are exploring everything from multi-robot systems and medical robotic devices to the ethical implications of human-robot interaction.
